Threaded Inserts & Steel Adaptors
Threaded inserts, also called steel adaptors or tubular threaded adaptors, are designed to install into a hole in round, square, rectangular, and oval tubing to provide a female-threaded opening for a male stud. Our threaded inserts are made to be used only with mild carbon steel. If you want to install your threaded adaptor into an injection molded part, consider our plastic threaded adaptors.
Superior Components maintains the largest stocked selection of steel threaded adaptors in the world, providing volume discounts for larger orders. We also offer many non-stock parts and custom options to meet your exact needs. Features of Tubular Steel Adaptors
Steel adaptors typically consist of a zinc-plated steel platform and heat-treated spring steel retaining clip assembled on each end of a threaded female steel nut. When you choose to use threaded inserts from Superior Components, you are selecting a range of benefits, such as:
- Easy installation using standard tools
- High strength and durability
- Vibration resistance
- And many more!
Thread Options
We stock parts to fit in 5/8” to 4” OD tube and from 10 to 20 gauge tube. Our female thread options include:
- 1/4-20
- 5/16-18
- 3/8-16
- 1/2-13
- M8
Other English and Metric thread sizes, left-handed threads, and adaptors with a male threaded stud are available.
Retaining Clip Configurations
Heat-treated spring steel retaining clips come in a horizontal style in a round shape to fit in round and square tubing. The horizontal-style clip also comes in square, rectangular, and oval shapes to fit tubes of the same shape.
The “grater”-style clip is used in square tubing that aligns the clip vertically against the inside tube with protrusions. These protrusions make the clip look like a “cheese grater,” thus the name “grater” clip, offering increased stability compared to horizontal clips.
Applications for Steel Threaded Inserts
Steel adaptors are used for many applications, including installing an adjustable glide or connecting a tube to something else. Heavier-duty threaded adaptors can be applied as caster sockets. Our steel adaptors are also suited for reinforcing soft metals, repairing spark plugs, reducing the size of tapped holes, and much, much more.
